Who we are
SURAGUS GmbH is a German company that is specialized in providing solutions for non-destructive material testing. We use new technical opportunities and the technical advances in microelectronics, manufacturing and miniaturization technologies and computer technology to develop eddy current testing solutions optimized for our customers’ needs.
The applied eddy current testing technology features a wide frequency range that comprises also very high frequencies. This flexibility in range combined with advanced measuring procedures allows the fast testing of both poorly and highly conductive materials.
Our testing equipment portfolio comprises portable hand-held tools, table-sized benchtop testing solutions, robot-based systems and standard and customized inline solutions.
Where we came from
SURAGUS is a spin-off of the Fraunhofer-Society, one of the largest German research organizations. Some members of our team have been working at the research group of Prof. Henning Heuer at Fraunhofer IKTS Dresden (Germany), who has been an important mentor during the founding process.
Since then the company has been growing continuously and now consists of an interdisciplinary team of mechanical and electrical engineers, of mathematicians and physicists and of programmers and business administration specialists.

At the heart of Europe’s largest microelectronics cluster – Silicon Saxony. A hub of innovation, collaboration, and cutting-edge semiconductor technology.

Pushing the boundaries of what we can measure
At the core of everything we do lies a simple drive: we want to know where the limits of our technology are — and then move them further. That curiosity is what keeps us invested in research and development as a continuous, deliberate effort rather than an occasional project. We genuinely enjoy exploring new measurement principles, refining existing methods, and turning promising ideas into practical, reliable systems.
This innovative streak is not an end in itself. It translates directly into new products and improved solutions for our customers — tools that help them control, inspect, and validate their processes with greater precision and confidence than before. Whether it is a new sensor concept, a refined analysis method, or an entirely new measurement system, every development is guided by one question: how can we enable our customers to understand their processes even better?
By continuously challenging the boundaries of our own technology, we make sure that the solutions we deliver today are ready for the production realities of tomorrow.
To put this ambition into practice, we are part of the following projects:
- METROPRO – In-line metrology for high-throughput vacuum metallization processes on wafers up to 300 mm
- MixItUp – Development of an in-line method for the electrical characterization of slurry using an eddy current sensor
- niniAs – Development of a non-invasive in-situ analysis method for layer thickness characterization in PVD processes
